Woman Jailed For Stealing Phone And Wallet Says She Wants "To Be Freed"
She stole the handphone and the wallet on two separate occasions.
A 20-year-old woman has been sentenced to a month in jail by Batu Pahat Magistrate's Court for stealing a handphone and a wallet
The woman, Nur Munirah Azwa Muhamad Rapi, pleaded guilty to the two charges.
The charges were framed under Section 414 of the Penal Code, which is for assisting in the concealment of stolen property, and under Section 380 of the same code for theft in a house.
The charges were read in front of Magistrate Suhaila Shafi'uddin yesterday, 28 February.
Nur Munirah stole the handphone from a woman on 8 February, and stole the wallet from another woman on 21 February
As per the charge sheet, she stole a handphone belonging to a 25-year-old woman on 8 February and sold it at a handphone shop in Jalan Besar, Rengit at 5pm the same day. Later, on 21 February, she stole a 34-year-old woman's wallet, which contained money, in Jalan Idrus, Batu Pahat at 8.30am, according to Berita Harian.
She could have been jailed for up to 17 years or fined or both, upon conviction. However, the court sentenced Nur Munirah to a month in jail beginning from her 21 February arrest, for both charges.
Following which, she pleaded with the court to be freed.
