Woman Who Claimed She Was Robbed Actually Lost RM16,100 To Gambling During CNY
She threw her handphone and belongings into a rubbish bin to make it look believable.
A woman was arrested yesterday, 13 February, for claiming that she was robbed after she gambled the money away during Chinese New Year
On Tuesday, 12 February, the 58-year-old petrol station manager filed a false police report claiming that an unknown man at a Penang petrol station robbed her of RM30,000, New Straits Times reported.
The money was earnings belonging to a petrol station at Sungai Rambai, Penang
To make her theft case more believable, the woman threw away her handphone and other personal belongings into a rubbish bin along Jalan Padang Lalang.
Unfortunately for her, CCTV footage revealed that the incident never occurred
"We examined the closed circuit television (CCTV) camera footage of the scene and found no such incident (robbery) happened," Seberang Prai Selatan district police chief Assistant Commissioner Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid was quoted as saying by New Straits Times.
Upon further investigation, police discovered that the woman had gambled RM16,100 of the company's money during the recent Chinese New Year celebrations
The remaining cash of RM18,900 was later found at the petrol station.
The case is currently being investigated under Section 182 of the Penal Code and the suspect will be remanded at the Bukit Mertajam court today, 14 February.
