Malaysian football star Faisal Halim is in critical condition after undergoing a second surgery for the fourth-degree burns inflicted upon him by multiple assailants during an acid attack

According to Selangor Football Association (FAS) deputy president Datuk Seri Shahril Mokhtar, the national footballer underwent surgery at a private hospital in Shah Alam yesterday, 6 May.

"Doctors initially believed Faisal suffered second-degree burns. However, after being transferred to another hospital for further treatment, the burns were diagnosed as fourth-degree," he was quoted as saying.

The footballer is said to be experiencing constant burning pain

Shahril, also a Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) executive committee member, shared that Faisal's left hand has limited mobility, raising concerns about his future athletic career.

"What I can say [about Faisal's condition] is his movement and speech are affected because of the [acid's] effect on his face [namely] his cheeks, nose, and mouth," he said.

"It's quite bad. He can't feel his left arm... He can't communicate clearly... He's feeling stiff, unable to talk well," Shahril said, adding that Faisal will need to be at the hospital for at least three to four weeks.

According to Shahril, Faisal will be out for a minimum of five or six months.

Faisal was assaulted by two men on a motorcycle at the parking lot of a shopping mall in Kota Damansara on Sunday, 5 May

The assailants reportedly shouted, "Good luck!" before throwing the liquid at him.

The police have since arrested two suspects believed to have been involved in the acid attack.

While the first suspect, a man in his 20s in Pandan Indah, was arrested on Sunday night, the second suspect, in his late 30s, was arrested in Bandar Baru Bangi last night, reported FMT.

This is the second attack on a footballer in the last few days. On 2 May, national winger cum Terengganu FC player Akhyar Rashid was assaulted by two robbers after returning from training.

Meanwhile, the Selangor FC chief revealed that Faisal was reportedly splashed with highly corrosive concentrated sulphuric acid:
