The Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) has unveiled a new design featuring "fiercer" tiger stripes for the attire of the national contingent heading to the 2024 Paris Olympics

In a statement today, 2 July, OCM president Tan Sri Norza Zakaria said the new attire places more emphasis on the tiger theme, with the jackets featuring more prominent tiger stripes on a black background.

Norza added that the Malaysian flag and the five Olympic Rings have also been redesigned to retain their actual colours, instead of being in gold as in the previously criticised design.

He said that their sponsor, Yonex Sunrise Malaysia, had even given the council special permission to not have their logo printed on the new uniform.

With the new design, Norza hoped that the contingent would have the unwavering support of all Malaysians at the 2024 Paris Olympics

"OCM believes that this new pattern symbolises the spirit of the tiger, which has been the Malaysian contingent's identity since it was first introduced at the 2005 SEA Games in Manila," he said.

"We hope this brighter pattern and motif not only emphasises the identity and uniformity of the contingent, but more importantly, symbolises their strength and courage to compete on behalf of the nation," he added.

The Paris Olympic Games will take place from 26 July to 11 August.
