Dr Mahathir Is Now The First Malaysian Politician To Join The Metaverse
The Metaverse Virtual Gallery features the former Prime Minister's legacy.
As of 26 July 2022, former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was bestowed the honour of becoming the first ever Malaysian leader to officially make a virtual mark in the metaverse
This happened due to the efforts made from an enterprising Malaysian startup, Uniquepro Metaholdings Sdn Bhd, to conceptualise and debut the company's first Metaverse Virtual Gallery.
The gallery features Mahathir's legacy — presenting iconic moments in the life and times of Dr Mahathir and Dr Siti Hasmah's life through cutting-edge technology.
The soft launch ceremony was attended by Dr Mahathir himself, alongside his wife Dr Siti Hasmah
Commemorated at the Shangri-La hotel in Kuala Lumpur, the former Prime Minister managed to give a few words regarding the initiative.
"Here today, we have the opportunity to witness another technological development brought about by Metaverse, which is linking the digital world that exists in parallel with the real world and allows real-time interactions in the VR (Virtual Reality) based environment. Given all these new achievements and exploration by our youths, I am hopeful and encouraged that the future of our nation is in good capable hands," he said.
The former Prime Minister continued on with his speech saying that he believes that through these new explorations of tech led through youths, he feels hopeful towards the future of the nation, and believes that it is in capable hands.
The Metaverse Virtual Gallery provides a space where art and technology can intertwine and empower the up-and-coming generation of artists
As technology and innovation evolves, so too does art. The Metaverse Virtual Gallery wants to be able to give artists a platform to unleash their creativity with the help of groundbreaking technology.
In addition to that, the gallery will also serve as a communications platform that transcends barriers and limitations spanning geographical location, time, and language.
It starts with Tun Dr Mahathir's legacy now, but will be updated in various stages
Beginning with a collection of past images of Tun Mahathir and Dr Siti, the gallery will also include the implementation of a design and artwork competition in honour of "Iconic & Inspiring Individuals" in Malaysia.
Martin Chew, Project Chairman of Uniquepro Meta Holdings, said that there is no better time to engage in the metaverse than the present
Chew believes that by introducing the metaverse by honouring Malaysia's father of modernisation and the legacy he left on the country, he hopes to inspire a new generation of artists through the metaverse.
