Passengers will no longer need to switch off their electronic devices onboard Malaysia Airlines, Firefly, and MASwings flights beginning 1 July

In a statement yesterday, 27 June, Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), the group that operates these airlines, announced that it has been given regulatory approval by the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) to enable 'Gate-to-Gate connectivity' for all its passengers.

"Beginning 1 July, passengers can enjoy the convenience of staying connected to their personal electronic devices throughout their journey, from the moment they board the aircraft through to arrival at their destination airport," it said.

Passengers will only need to enable 'flight mode' from boarding to disembarking.

At the moment, passengers are required by aircraft regulations to switch off their electronic devices during take-off and landing

Personal electronic devices include mobile phones, tablets, and other small handheld devices that should be stowed in the passenger's seat pocket.

With the new convenience, passengers may now continue playing games, reading, or watching downloaded videos on their devices from take-off to landing.

MAG highlighted that it is the first airline group in the country to provide this feature for travellers departing from Malaysia

"We are committed to providing exceptional customer service and innovative travel experiences which places customers at the heart of everything we do," said MAG chief executive officer of airlines Ahmad Luqman Mohd Azmi.

He also announced that all Business Suite and Business Class passengers, as well as Enrich Platinum members, may enjoy complimentary WiFi on their airlines from 1 July until 31 December 2023.

Other passengers may enjoy the airlines' pay-per-use WiFi, MHconnect, or enjoy their wireless in-flight entertainment, MHStudio.

Ahmad Luqman said the group will be actively expanding their number of aircrafts equipped with WiFi to provide their customers a better in-flight experience.
