X Will Hide Your Likes So You Can Like "Edgy" Content Without Being Judged
The update is coming real soon.
X will be introducing private likes as soon as today, 12 June
This change means that users' likes on the platform will now be hidden by default, a feature already available to X's Premium subscribers.
X owner Elon Musk shared a screenshot, emphasising that it's "important to allow people to like posts without getting attacked for doing so."
A few weeks ago, X explained the thought process behind this decision
X's Director of Engineering, Haofei Wang, explained that the upcoming change aims to protect users' public image, as many people feel discouraged from liking "edgy" content.
The Likes tab on user profiles will be removed. Users will still be able to see who liked their posts and the total number of likes on all posts. However, they will not be able to see who liked other users' posts, according to X's Senior Software Engineer, Enrique Barragan.
Barragan also hinted at the launch of a new feature today, which is most likely to be this one.
