Have you ever imagined using a computer or a laptop with a 100-inch screen? It sounds impractical, doesn't it?

You'd need to lug around a gigantic display as well as the power units required to power it up, and that sounds nigh impossible.

However, one company has found a solution to the challenge of having a massive display while maintaining portability and practicality.

Meet the Spacetop G1 — an innovation from a startup company that combines the portability of a laptop with the immersive experience of augmented reality (AR) goggles

A startup named Sightful has developed a unique innovation with their Spacetop G1, a mobile computer that functions like a laptop but lacks a built-in screen. Instead, it uses a pair of XREAL Air 2 Pro glasses to create a virtual 100-inch display.

Initially introduced about a year ago through a limited early access programme, the Spacetop G1 will be available to the general public later this year for US$1,900 (RM8,970). Customers can reserve one now for US$100 (RM472).

Here's what you get with that almost RM9,000 investment:

You will receive a screenless laptop equipped with a 79-key keyboard and a multitouch touchpad, but no built-in display. Instead, it has two USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C ports for connecting peripherals, including the AR glasses that come with the device. These ports can also be used to connect a portable or desktop monitor.

The AR glasses feature dual 1920 x 1080 pixel OLED displays with 90Hz refresh rates, a 50-degree field of view, and 42PPD (pixels per degree). They support custom prescription lenses and come with stereo 6W open-ear speakers.

The Spacetop G1 also includes a 60W battery with support for 63W fast charging using a USB-C power adapter. Sightful claims the device can offer up to eight hours of battery life on a single charge.

There's also a built-in 5MP camera that enables video calls at resolutions of up to 2592 x 1944 pixels.

The internals of the laptop aren't short of impressive, either

The Spacetop G1 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon QCS8550 processor, equipped with 16GB of LPDDR5 memory and 128GB of UFS 3.1 storage. It features Adreno 740 graphics and a Hexagon NPU, offering up to 48 Tera Operations per Second (TOPS) of AI performance.

However, Qualcomm's newer Snapdragon X Plus and Elite chips provide 45TOPS using just the NPU, along with competitive CPU and graphics performance.

The Spacetop G1 stands out with its robust wireless capabilities, supporting WiFi 7, Bluetooth 5.3, and 5G Sub-6 GHz and/or 4G LTE network bands. It also includes dual SIM support via a nano SIM card slot and an eSIM.

Have we mentioned that you can pre-order your Spacetop G1 now?
