Proton Set To Reveal Details Of Their First EV This Wednesday
This may be the dawn of a new age for the national automotive brand.
National carmaker Proton is set to announce the details of its first-ever electric vehicle (EV) in Malaysia
Over the weekend, we spotted a teaser post on Proton's official Facebook page, highlighting that the car brand would be unveiling "its journey into its future of sustainability" on Wednesday, 12 June.
The promo's caption includes the hashtag #PROTONEV, suggesting that the local car brand will finally reveal details about its first-ever EV model, as previously promised.
Based on its previous social media post, we expect Proton to reveal the name of the upcoming EV
Earlier this year, Proton launched an online competition called 'Decode the Future' to guess the name of the brand's electric car.. Participants who managed to guess the name correctly would be rewarded with a monetary prize.
Proton has introduced several concept cars featuring EV powertrains, including the Proton EMAS concept car designed by Italdesign Giugiaro, which was revealed at the Geneva Motor Show
Additionally, there's the Proton Exora REEV, and in 2009, a Proton Saga with an electric motor was showcased at Universiti Putra Malaysia.
More recently, Proton showcased the Iriz EV at the 2015 International Greentech & Eco Products Exhibition and Conference Malaysia (IGEM).
Most of the previous concept cars and prototypes turned out to be dashed hopes for Malaysian car enthusiasts, as they were auctioned off back in 2020. Although the Proton EMAS was eventually withdrawn from the auction, the majority of other Proton EV prototypes met a similar fate.
