The owner who beat up a troublemaker at his convenience store in Seberang Jaya, Penang, last Monday, 3 June, is a black belt master in taekwondo

According to China Press, the shop owner, surnamed Wu (transliteration), started learning the Korean martial art at the age of 17.

In 1996, he was crowned the Penang champion in the International Taekwondo Federation competition.

Two years later, Wu briefly served as a substitute taekwondo instructor.

"I vaguely remember that in 1998, a taekwondo coach was not available to teach his classes. That year, I took over four classes and taught the students.

"The coach recommended that I become a full-time instructor.

"However, I was busy running my family's convenience store, so I rejected the offer," he told the Chinese daily.

Wu went viral last week after a video of him fighting a man, believed to be drunk, at his convenience store was widely circulated on social media

In the videos, Wu challenged the troublemaker to a one-on-one fight.

He emerged victorious, with the troublemaker falling to the ground.

"One by one, gentleman," said Wu, suggesting that he won the fight fair and square. The troublemaker lost the fight again when he stood up and retaliated.

When Wu was talking to several individuals outside his store, the troublemaker hit Wu's head from behind with a helmet.

Wu fought back and the troublemaker fell to his knees.

The convenience store owner filed a police report on the same night of the incident. Subsequently, on Thursday, 6 June, the police arrested both the troublemaker and Wu to assist in the investigation, reported the New Straits Times.

The case is being investigated under Sections 324 and 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt, as well as Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 for behaving in a threatening or insulting manner.

The police explained that the incident began when the troublemaker entered the store to buy liquor, but a misunderstanding between him and the store owner escalated into the altercation.
