A 27-year-old woman and her 66-year-old husband were arrested in Ipoh, Perak, following the death of their five-year-old adopted daughter

Ipoh district police chief ACP Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said the couple was arrested yesterday, 10 June, to assist in the investigation into the victim's death, believed to have been caused by abuse.

The five-year-old girl died at around 9.45am yesterday at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital in Ipoh.

Abang Zainal stated that the victim was brought to the red zone of the emergency ward to undergo cardiac and respiratory emergency aid before being pronounced dead.

He also said an examination of the victim revealed bruises all over her body, indicating that the child was beaten with a blunt object.

An autopsy confirmed the cause of death was blunt force trauma

Lacerations and bruises on the victim's external genitalia and anus were also discovered.

"Police went to the [crime] scene at a house in Taman Malkop Silibin to conduct further investigation," he said.

The couple was arrested under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

"We appeal to anyone with information about this case to contact the investigating officer, ASP Norazlina Rais Ahmad, at 013-6282176, or come forward to any nearby police station," he added.
