Father Of Boy Who Died In Mass Food Poisoning At A School Says He Doesn't Blame Anyone
82 people have suffered food poisoning after eating contaminated food prepared for a programme at a religious school in Gombak.
The family of a 17-year-old boy who died after eating contaminated food from a programme at a religious school in Gombak, Selangor, doesn't want to blame anyone for the tragedy
According to the boy's 53-year-old father, Kamal Baihan, the family has accepted the untimely death of his son, Luth Izhar, who was the youngest of three siblings, as fate, reported Harian Metro.
The father of three told the Malay daily that the result of the post-mortem examination of his son might take a while to come out, especially since another child died from eating the same food.
"This happened after we ate leftovers brought back by my wife [from a school programme], but I don't want to point fingers at anyone because we have not had any problems all this while," he added.
Kamal stated that the family doesn't feel comfortable linking the tragic incident to the religious school.
Meanwhile, Nazrol Shah Hafiz, the father of the two-year-old girl, Nur Delisha Madihah, who also died from food poisoning, did not want to speak much about his tragic loss, reported the New Straits Times.
Apart from the two deaths, a total of 82 people have suffered food poisoning after eating food prepared for the school programme
The New Straits Times quoted Selangor health director Dr Ummi Kalthom Shamsudin as saying that the individuals experienced symptoms including diarrhoea, abdominal pain, fever, vomiting, and nausea.
The source of the food poisoning is believed to be the fried bihun and eggs that were prepared for the event.
However, according to Kamal, the fried bihun did not smell bad.
"I smelled it first when it was brought back by my wife and it didn't smell bad. When Luth ate it, he asked for an extra egg from his elder sister as she didn't eat hers," he was quoted as saying.
Meanwhile, police said they are investigating the food poisoning case and will summon the caterers, event organisers, and teachers at the religious school to assist in the investigation
"Police will investigate all relevant parties and I have also been informed that the Health Ministry has ordered the closure of the school canteen involved," said Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan yesterday, 11 June.
