Police have recorded statements from eight people in connection with the death of 19-year-old Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Polytechnic (POLISAS) student M Elisa Jonova

Pahang acting police chief Datuk Azry Akmar Ayob said those questioned included three of the victim's friends, her housemates, and the owner of the premises where she was found dead.

"We have so far questioned eight people, including three of the victim's friends, and may call more if necessary," he was quoted as saying by the New Straits Times.

Azry said investigations into Elisa's death are ongoing.

Once the investigation is completed, the investigation papers will be referred to the deputy public prosecutor for further instructions.

Elisa, a diploma student at POLISAS, was found dead in her rented room at a house along Jalan Air Putih, Kuantan, at about 4.30am on Tuesday, 6 October.

She was allegedly strangled following an argument with her 19-year-old boyfriend.

The suspect reportedly contacted police himself to alert them to the incident

Kuantan police previously said officers found Elisa lying unconscious on a bed inside a ground-floor room when they arrived at the premises.

A forensic examination found pressure marks around her neck.

The suspect was arrested at the scene and remanded until 12 October to assist in investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
