A 79-year-old woman was allegedly pushed into a drain by a woman who contested as an independent candidate in the 15th General Election (GE15), after the suspect reportedly waited outside a shop for the elderly woman to emerge
The incident happened at about 10.30am last Friday in Taman OUG, Kuala Lumpur.
The victim, a former Selangor hockey player in the 1960s, suffered injuries to the back of her head, left hand, and back and was hospitalised for four days.
According to Brickfields police chief ACP Hoo Chang Hook, the victim had entered a tailor shop owned by her friend shortly before the incident. The woman reportedly told her friend that she was being followed by the suspect.
When the 79-year-old left the shop a few minutes later, the suspect, who had allegedly been waiting outside, suddenly pushed her unprovoked, causing her to fall into a drain.

The incident was captured by a closed-circuit television camera at the premises. The victim's friend lodged a police report at 12.37pm on the same day, reported the New Straits Times.
Police from the Brickfields District Criminal Investigation Division subsequently raided a house and detained the suspect. Hoo said the suspect denied pushing the elderly woman during initial questioning and did not provide a reasonable explanation for her alleged actions.
Police also found that the suspect did not personally know the victim.
The victim had to spend four days in hospital
The victim was taken to Universiti Malaya Medical Centre by her friend, where she was warded in the emergency department for four days. She was discharged on Monday, 21 September.
The suspect was remanded for one day at the Brickfields police headquarters' lockup. A magistrate also ordered the suspect to undergo psychiatric examination and treatment to assist with the investigation.
Police are investigating the case under Section 325 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt.
Hoo said police are awaiting the victim's full medical report before the investigation paper is referred to the deputy public prosecutor for further instructions on possible charges.
