Magic: The Gathering's latest set, Aetherdrift, is coming soon
Wizards of the Coast is shaking things up in the world of the trading card game, Magic: The Gathering (MTG) trading card game!
Their latest set, Aetherdrift, takes a wild turn from traditional card game designs. Instead of focusing on a single plane or realm, Aetherdrift throws players into a high-speed, multiversal race across different worlds, following ten unique racing teams with their own distinct vehicles and strategies. Imagine a magical version of Speed Racer, where spells and creatures collide on the racetrack!
This set promises a thrilling and innovative experience for MTG fans, pushing the boundaries of the game's creative possibilities.
SAYS is thrilled to exclusively share a preview card from the new Aetherdrift set, thanks to Wizards of the Coast
Gastal Raider, a three-mana creature that allows players to peek at the opponent's hand and get rid of pesky Instant or Sorcery cards, screwing their meticulously crafted plans.
That's not all, this card also features the 'Start Your Engines!' mechanic. This new mechanic adds a dynamic element to the game, where cards gain extra benefits based on your 'speed' level.
To get started, you'll need cards with the "Start Your Engine" ability. These cards give you an initial speed of one. Then, at the end of each of your turns, you can increase your speed by one if you've dealt damage to your opponent during that turn.
Once players hit max speed, this card becomes a significant threat in the battlefield as it gains more attacking and defensive power. It also gains Menace, meaning it's harder to block Gastal Raider during combat.
This card is a strong addition to black decks focused on disrupting their opponents hands
Gastal Raider seems to find its home in a few decks in the current competitive Standard format. Even if it doesn't land a spot in any meta decks, it's a substanial powerhouse in the more fun Sealed format.

The excitement for Aetherdrift is building, but you'll have to wait just a little longer to hit the track! The official release date is 14 February. However, previews of the new cards are starting now, with daily reveals leading up to the pre-release events on 7 February.
