UPDATE, 3 August: GSC Berjaya Times Square reopened on 21 October 2021, after 10 months of closure.

Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) just announced that its branches in Berjaya Times Square and Cheras Leisure Mall will cease operations for good

"We've had a good long run for GSC Cheras Leisure Mall since 1995 and GSC Berjaya Times Square since 2005 but, due to the current situation with opening restrictions due to the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO), have had to shutter these cinemas permanently," it stated in a post on its Facebook page today, 7 January.

The beloved cinema company also thanked its customers for supporting them throughout the years at these malls.

Naturally, news of the closures have saddened many movie-goers, especially those who grew up in the Cheras and city centre areas
