27-Year-Old M'sian Wins 'Favourite Asian Creator' At Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards 2023
YouTuber Aqil Zulkiflee bested other content creators from Indonesia, Japan, and the Philippines.
A 27-year-old Malaysian content creator won a fan favourite award at the famed Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards 2023
The annual awards show celebrates the entertainment industry and hands out awards for categories including television, film, and music.
The 34th Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards was held at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles, in the US, on Saturday, 4 March, this year.
Other categories included famous international celebrities including BTS, Charli D'Amelio, MrBeast, Olivia Rodrigo, Bella Poarch, Taylor Swift, Harry Styles, and more.
Aqil won the 'Favourite Asian Creator' category, besting Gen Halilintar from Indonesia, HIKAKIN from Japan, and Niana Guerrero from the Philippines
In his award speech, the Malaysian said it was such an honour to represent the country.
Aqil told Harian Metro that he was surprised when he first received an email from Nickelodeon informing him that he was nominated for the award in January.
"I really didn't expect to be chosen because the other contestants are simply amazing," he said.
Nonetheless, he tried his best to encourage his fans to vote for him throughout the online voting period
"Opportunities like this don't come easy, so I will work as hard as possible," said the content creator who posted videos every day on YouTube and Instagram to garner votes.
The 27-year-old started actively uploading YouTube videos during the Movement Control Order (MCO) in 2020, and has over 1.73 million subscribers, who follow him for his fun and playful content.
