Michelle Yeoh Makes History As The First Malaysian To Win Best Actress At The SAG Awards

Adding on to her long list of achievements, Michelle Yeoh once again bags another prestigious award at the 29th Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards

The Everything, Everywhere, All at Once (2022) actress is the proud title-holder for Outstanding Performance By A Female Actor In A Leading Role, making her the first Asian woman to receive it, and the second to have been nominated.

Dato Michelle Yeoh was seen holding back tears of joy upon the announcement, and received a standing ovation from the audience members, including co-stars Jamie Lee Curtis and Ke Huy Quan, who was also the first Asian male to win a similar title the same night.

"I think if I speak, my heart will explode. SAG-AFTRA, to get this from you who understands what it is to get here. Every one of you knows the journey, the roller coaster ride, the ups and downs. But most importantly, we never give up. I thank you...  This is not just for me, this is for every little girl who looks like me," the actress elegantly delivered her acceptance speech, holding onto her new trophy.

The 29th SAG Awards honoured Everything, Everywhere, All At Once (2022) with four awards, including Michelle Yeoh's

The movie received the award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast In A Motion Picture, with Ke Huy Quan snagging the award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role. Jamie Lee Curtis won Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role, a category who co-star Stephanie Hsu was also nominated for.

Dato Michelle Yeoh was up against Cate Blanchett, Viola Davis, Ana de Armas, and Danielle Deadwyler in her category.

Her next anticipated win is from her nomination for the Oscars, included in the 11 nominations received by the movie. The ceremony is set to take place Sunday, 12 March.
