It's Official — New 'Avatar: The Last Airbender' Animated Movie Is Being Released in 2025
Hold on to your childhoods, Aang and "the Gaang" are coming back. This time, on the big screen!
Mark your calendars, guys — an upcoming Avatar: The Last Airbender (ATLA) film focusing on the lives of Aang and his friends as young adults is confirmed for a 2025 release
As reported by Variety on 10 November, Paramount has set 10 October 2025 as the official release date of the untitled project.
If that wasn't exciting enough, this news follows Nickelodeon's announcement in June of this year that it plans to release not one, but three feature-length films with the newly formed Avatar Studios at the helm.
The first film will hail the return of Aang and the rest of Team Avatar as we follow them on their adventure as adults
We'll revisit characters we all know and love from the original series, such as Water Tribe siblings Katara and Sokka, earthbender Toph Beifong, Fire Nation prince and ATLA heartthrob Prince Zuko, as well as Kyoshi warrior Suki.
As far as what fans can expect for the upcoming film, the studio has yet to release any specific plot details, such as the time period in Aang's life during which the story might take place, or whether other characters from ATLA will be featured alongside the main cast.
What we do know, however, are the creative leads behind the project
The new movie will see the film headed by several ATLA veterans who were responsible for bringing the original series to life. This includes Lauren Montgomery as acting director, and series creators Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko as producers, alongside Eric Coleman.
Given the critical and commercial failure that was M. Night Shyamalan's 2010 live-action movie adaptation of the series, news of an animated film headed by the same minds who personally worked on the original series is more than welcome.
All three films are pieces of a larger mosaic of new series and movies that will expand upon the world of ATLA
They will be developed under Avatar Studios, which was launched with the intention of creating original series and movies set in the Avatar universe.
The upcoming animated movie will be set for release on Paramount+, Nickelodeon platforms, unspecified third-party platforms, and in cinemas.
