We Went To Malaysia's First Drive-In Cinema. Here's What It's Like
Casuarina Sini-Drive is located at Bandar Meru Raya in Ipoh, Perak.
Malaysia's first drive-in cinema is finally here and we never knew watching a movie from the comfort of our own vehicle could be so enjoyable!
Last Friday, 17 July, Casuarina Meru invited us to the official launch of their drive-in cinema, Casuarina Sini-Drive, located at Bandar Meru Raya in Ipoh, Perak.
According to Casuarina Meru, they are the first drive-in cinema that comes fully equipped with a website and online ticketing system. The new entertainment in town is the brainchild of Perak Chief MInister Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu, which is also in line with Tourism Perak's #TravelPerakLah campaign.
Our colleague at SAYS, Sharul Syafie, arrived at the venue at 7pm and the movie shown was Jurassic Park
Talking about action in a vehicle, Casuarina Meru really picked the right movie for their maiden screening.
Sharul said moviegoers have to tune their vehicle's radio to an indicated frequency in order to receive the movie's audio. However, large speakers are stationed beside the screen as well.
As for the screen size, Sharul said, "It would be better if it is slightly bigger or position it a bit higher so that when people walk out of their cars, they will not be blocking the screen."
He was with his parents that night and related that the weather was great.
"I just left my window slightly opened to get some ventilation. If the weather is hot, you might need to turn your air conditioning," Sharul shared.
The coolest part of the experience is you can order drinks and snacks without even leaving your vehicle
Sharul said moviegoers will just need to put on their hazard lights and the employees will come to their vehicle to take their orders.
"So it's really new norm-friendly," he said.
According to Casuarina Sini-Drive's website, tickets are priced at RM36, RM40, and RM42 and it comes with a food package.
Movies that are currently screening include Gulliver's Travels, Ouija: Origin Of Evil, Pirates Of The Caribbean: The Curse Of The Black Pearl, and more.
Each screening can hold a total of 70 vehicles.
