Yuna Reveals That She & Billie Eilish Collaborated On A Song But It Was Never Released
Yuna, can you please... release it.
A musical artiste's world is full of unfinished and unreleased work that sometimes never gets shared with the public
But what if we were to tell you that one of those works was a collaboration between a Billboard-topping Malaysian performer and an Academy Award-winning American singer?
BET Award nominee and Malaysian musical icon Yuna recently sat down with Fly FM's Kavin Jay and Ryan Howlett for a radio interview, discussing her artistry and collaborations with some of the biggest names in Hollywood. She also sang some tunes from her latest extended play (EP), titled Masih Yuna (2023).
However, a shortened clip from the interview has been making waves on TikTok after the singer revealed that seven-time Grammy Award winner Billie Eilish was one of the first artistes to reach out to her back in the day.
Yuna revealed that she had overlooked a message sent by Eilish, who casually slid into the Malaysian singer's Twitter DMs back in 2016
In 2016, Yuna stated that she was preparing to perform at a music festival organised by Tyler, the Creator called Camp Flog Gnaw Festival. It was around that same time when she started following Eilish online.
"During that time, I had just started following Billie when she first started out. She had Ocean Eyes out and it was amazing. I listened to it and I was like, 'Oh, who's this girl? I love this song'. I followed her and that was it," said Yuna in the interview.
Unbeknownst to her, Eilish had sent her a DM that went unread by the Malaysian singer for two years.
"She was like, 'Hi, I'm a huge fan, I'm a 14-year-old singer. I listened to Lullabies and I love it. Can I see you backstage?' And I missed it!" added Yuna.
However, Yuna stated that she eventually reached out to Eilish, and the duo collaborated on a song that has never been released
"We had a session together, we met up and made a really cute song. It didn't come out unfortunately. But I have that moment with her. She's such a lovely girl," continued Yuna.
Acknowledging the moment, both Kavin Jay and Howlett said how that was virtually the best story they've ever heard.
While neither artiste has confirmed it, this Quote Tweet by Yuna of herself and Eilish at a recording studio back in 2017 resurfaced, with many fans assuming that this was the collaboration Yuna referenced:
Astounded by this revelation, many Malaysian fans were demanding for the collaboration to be released
On behalf of all Malaysians, Yuna... please release the collab, we're begging you.
