F1 driver Valtteri Bottas is decompressing from a disappointing DNF at the Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia by cycling some 320km to his next race

Instead of using the time to rest or flying directly to Singapore, the 37-year-old Cadillac driver has chosen to take the unconventional route to the next Grand Prix — by cycling from Sepang to Singapore.

During the weekend in Sepang, Bottas was already spotted by fans cycling away from the Sepang International Circuit amid heavy traffic.

The F1 driver is a known cycling enthusiast, with plenty of cycling content on his Instagram profile, including rides with his partner, Australian professional cyclist Tiffany Cromwell.

Many netizens had joked that he would cycle all the way to Singapore for the next race.

As it turns out, he actually is.

Yesterday, 5 October, Bottas posted a Reel captioned, "Yes, I'm riding to Singapore", showing snippets of his journey so far

The footage showed him cycling on roads, dirt paths, and even through a palm oil plantation in the dark.

The F1 driver was also spotted by a local cyclist in Sungai Udang, Melaka, who expressed surprise at bumping into Bottas and even commended him for his speed.

But those in the know will know that Bottas has been documenting his journey in detail on Strava

According to his Strava profile, Bottas has completed two days of cycling so far.

On his first day, he cycled 56.6km from Sepang to Port Dickson, followed by another 161.91km from Port Dickson to Muar on his second day.

That's a combined distance of 218.51km, with a total of about eight hours spent on the road across the two rides.

His Strava activities also show that he appears to be riding with a local cyclist named Epul Yahya.

Based on his latest activity, Bottas is expected to finish his ride to Singapore today, 6 October.

He is set to compete in the Singapore GP at the Marina Bay Street Circuit from 9 to 11 October.
