In conjunction with 7-Eleven Day, which falls on 7 November, the popular convenience store will be having all kinds of exciting promos throughout the month, woohoo!

But first, here are a few fun facts you may not know about 7-Eleven:

1. 7-Eleven used to be called Tote'm Stores

The reason it was called Tote'm Stores was because customers literally toted, or hauled, their groceries away. Some of the original Tote'm stores even featured totem poles out front.

The first convenience store was later renamed 7-Eleven in 1946 to reflect its 7am to 11pm operating hours.

2. It was the first ever convenience store to open 24 hours

7-Eleven wasn't always a 24-hour establishment. In 1963, one of the outlets decided to stay open past 11pm to accommodate university students. When business boomed, the store decided to stay open for 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Besides that, 7-Eleven was also the first convenience store to sell petrol and offer ATM services to customers.

3. 7-Eleven coined and trademarked the term "brain freeze"

When sipping through a straw, 7-Eleven's agency director Bob Standord commented that it made a "slurp" sound, leading to the iconic Slurpee that we're all familiar with. In 1994, they even coined and trademarked the term "brain freeze" to express the painful joy of drinking a frozen Slurpee.

4. They sell 44 Olympic-sized swimming pools worth of Slurpees in a year

According to 7-Eleven, 14 million Slurpees are sold each month, with the top flavours being Coca-Cola and Wild Cherry. Since the Slurpee was introduced in 1966, 7-Eleven says 7.2 billion have been sold, one for nearly every person on the planet.

5. The first 7-Eleven store in Malaysia opened on 9 October 1984 in Jalan Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur
