If you're tired of staying indoors on the weekends, there may be a few places you can go to soak up some sun and keep yourself entertained

Truth be told, outdoor hobbies have evolved to the point that our traditional ways of having fun without a cellphone or gadgets have now been completely forgotten, and dismissed.

But why not unplug for a few hours in the afternoon without the constant intrusion and bombardment of social media and technology.

Here are eight great fishing spots in KL & Selangor to bring yourself back into nature, or spend some quality time with your dad:

1. Fishing Buddies

Get this: What if you could go fishing at a pond, and not pay a dime if you weren't guaranteed a strike? Such a measure seems to be the philosophy of Fishing Buddies. Located in Sepang, Fishing Buddies is a good place to start learning the ins and outs of everything when it comes to fishing. From learning to control your swing, to understanding how reels vary in size and functionality, you can even practice with artificial lures if you're not comfortable with the real thing just yet.

Lot 5720 Kolam Udang Selepas JPS,
Bagan Lalang, 43950 Sepang, Selangor.

Operating hours:
7am-7pm (Thursday to Tuesday).
Closed on Wednesday.

RM50 per day, or RM100 per person — 5 strikes guarantee within an hour. Packages are also available, visit their Facebook page for more information.

2. Hulu Langat Fishing Resort

If you're gonna go fishing, you might as well make an entire holiday out of it for the whole family. A good choice for dads with young children, Hulu Langat Fishing Resort offers private cabins with designated platforms to fish from. With surroundings of green and a serene ambience to completely immerse yourself into the recreational sport, those having trouble getting a bite can always ask the resort staff for some assistance on how to get in better strikes.

43100 Hulu Langat, Selangor.

3. Prima Fishing

Those who don't have the time to travel all the way out of town may prefer this fishing pond that's just on the tail end of Puchong. The lake has a variation of freshwater species. From Snakeheads to Peacock Bass, the joy of this fishing experience is sitting on a boat out in the water to see what you'll find next. Though Prima Fishing claims to cater to the needs of 'Sports-Fishermen', we'd suggest you have a couple of tricks up your sleeve before visiting this lake.

Jalan Tpt 1, Taman Puchong Tekali,
47150 Puchong, Selangor.

Operating hours:
7am-7pm (Daily).

A deposit of RM50 will be required alongside a booking for the fishing session. Visit their Facebook page for more information.

4. Jugra SW Fishing Pond

Split across two ponds that are filled with groupers and siakap respectively (and separately), Jugra SW Fishing Pond is making their comeback after having suffered from the repercussions of the COVID-19 lockdowns over the past two years. Gaining authorisation to use live fishing lure or soft plastic instead, you may want to do some research and properly search the address of this pond, as it's located in a rather remote area of Banting, and won't be easy to spot.

Kampung Ayer Tawar,
42700 Banting, Selangor.

Operating hours:
8am-7pm (Daily).

RM20 per hour. RM50 for three hours.

5. Fish Valley

A freshwater fish's haven, Fish Valley houses a variety of carps just waiting to be caught. Beyond the fishing pond, the location is a great hotspot for those looking to explore some activities through the day. Stop for lunch at the restaurant that serves local Chinese and Thai cuisine, or take an ATV and bike ride out back for some muddy action. Encapsulated in green hills and luscious thick forests, this spot would do well for the old-man's birthday celebration, or even a Father's Day outing.

PT 16367, Jalan Kachau Sri Haneco Industrial Park,
Jalan Kachau, Semenyih Malaysia.

Operating hours:
11am-8pm (Daily).

RM7 for using the purchase pond, RM40 for the catch-and-release pond, and RM30 for half-day fishing (only applicable after 2pm).

6. LS Fishing Pond

Having a busy day, but still wanna have something to show at the end of your reel after a couple of hours fishing? The home of the Goliath Grouper, critters pulled out of LS Fishing Pond vary from under 10kg to surpassing a weight of 100kg. With three different ponds and a total space coverage that estimates about a third of an entire football field, we'd be quite shocked if you came to this site and went back home without anything to show for it.

Lot 2148, Jalan Bandar Lama,
42500 Kuala Langat,
Telok Panglima, Selangor.

Operating hours:
8am-1am (Daily).

Including the likes of Pacu, Patin, Grass Carp, and Telapia fish, the centre even has a canteen where you can grab a bite to eat, or rest for awhile before heading out to find your next catch. With a zero-tolerance policy of bringing harm to the species that inhabit the pond, avid fishers be warned that you will not be allowed to bring these fishes home.

Well-stocked in a wide-open space of 4.5 hectacres of land, a fun historical feature of the grounds is a 323-metre tunnel that goes through a whopping 60-metre high hill, that births the plethora of creations every fisherman dreams of catching.
