Here are eight great fishing spots in KL & Selangor to bring yourself back into nature, or spend some quality time with your dad:
1. Fishing Buddies
Get this: What if you could go fishing at a pond, and not pay a dime if you weren't guaranteed a strike? Such a measure seems to be the philosophy of Fishing Buddies. Located in Sepang, Fishing Buddies is a good place to start learning the ins and outs of everything when it comes to fishing. From learning to control your swing, to understanding how reels vary in size and functionality, you can even practice with artificial lures if you're not comfortable with the real thing just yet.

2. Hulu Langat Fishing Resort
If you're gonna go fishing, you might as well make an entire holiday out of it for the whole family. A good choice for dads with young children, Hulu Langat Fishing Resort offers private cabins with designated platforms to fish from. With surroundings of green and a serene ambience to completely immerse yourself into the recreational sport, those having trouble getting a bite can always ask the resort staff for some assistance on how to get in better strikes.

3. Prima Fishing
Those who don't have the time to travel all the way out of town may prefer this fishing pond that's just on the tail end of Puchong. The lake has a variation of freshwater species. From Snakeheads to Peacock Bass, the joy of this fishing experience is sitting on a boat out in the water to see what you'll find next. Though Prima Fishing claims to cater to the needs of 'Sports-Fishermen', we'd suggest you have a couple of tricks up your sleeve before visiting this lake.

4. Jugra SW Fishing Pond
Split across two ponds that are filled with groupers and siakap respectively (and separately), Jugra SW Fishing Pond is making their comeback after having suffered from the repercussions of the COVID-19 lockdowns over the past two years. Gaining authorisation to use live fishing lure or soft plastic instead, you may want to do some research and properly search the address of this pond, as it's located in a rather remote area of Banting, and won't be easy to spot.

5. Fish Valley
A freshwater fish's haven, Fish Valley houses a variety of carps just waiting to be caught. Beyond the fishing pond, the location is a great hotspot for those looking to explore some activities through the day. Stop for lunch at the restaurant that serves local Chinese and Thai cuisine, or take an ATV and bike ride out back for some muddy action. Encapsulated in green hills and luscious thick forests, this spot would do well for the old-man's birthday celebration, or even a Father's Day outing.

6. LS Fishing Pond
Having a busy day, but still wanna have something to show at the end of your reel after a couple of hours fishing? The home of the Goliath Grouper, critters pulled out of LS Fishing Pond vary from under 10kg to surpassing a weight of 100kg. With three different ponds and a total space coverage that estimates about a third of an entire football field, we'd be quite shocked if you came to this site and went back home without anything to show for it.

- Pond 1 (RM40 for the first two hours, RM15 for subsequent hours).
- Pond 2 (RM80 for one hour with one rod to one person, RM120 for one hour with two people sharing one rod).
- Pond 3 (RM300 for three sharable fishing rods, RM500 for six sharable fishing rods, RM100 for each additional fishing rod).
7. Tow Foo Sport Fishing Centre
Through their catch-and-release only policy, Tow Foo Sport Fishing Centre is on the rise for encouraging the pleasure of fishing while maintaining civility against the creature. Including the likes of Pacu, Patin, Grass Carp, and Telapia fish, the centre even has a canteen where you can grab a bite to eat, or rest for awhile before heading out to find your next catch. With a zero-tolerance policy of bringing harm to the species that inhabit the pond, avid fishers be warned that you will not be allowed to bring these fishes home.

8. Air Kuning Dam
A fishing dam inside a botanical garden practically offers up a 'two-in-one' for an eventful day. Air Kuning Dam is THE place to go to for those looking to fly fish. Well-stocked in a wide-open space of 4.5 hectacres of land, a fun historical feature of the grounds is a 323-metre tunnel that goes through a whopping 60-metre high hill, that births the plethora of creations every fisherman dreams of catching.
