For many pet owners, their furry companions are family.
So it's no surprise that some couples want their beloved pets by their side when they officially tie the knot.
At the Chan She Shu Yuen Clan Ancestral Hall along Jalan Petaling in Kuala Lumpur, couples can do exactly that.
According to China Press, the 130-year-old ancestral hall is one of the first Chinese ancestral halls in Malaysia to welcome pets at their registration of marriage (ROM) ceremonies.
Since 2024, the hall has openly encouraged newlyweds to include their furbabies as part of their special day.
"For newlyweds registering their marriage, in addition to relatives and friends, we also welcome furbabies to share in this joy and witness this happy moment. For more details, please PM us," the hall wrote in a social media post two years ago.

Assistant registrar of marriages Tan Kok Beng, who is also a dog owner, said he understands how pets have become an important part of many families today
"Many people consider their pets as family members, so, of course, they want to bring their pets along to witness these happy occasions," he said.
According to Tan, the hall has welcomed all kinds of animal guests over the years, including dogs, cats, rabbits, and even tortoises.
He added that the pet-friendly initiative has become one of the ancestral hall's defining features, especially among younger couples looking for a more personal ROM experience.

One couple even brought all seven of their Pomeranians
In an Instagram post from September last year, the couple shared photos of their marriage registration surrounded by family members and all seven of their dogs.
The bride, Sandy, told SAYS that it was difficult to find a venue willing to accommodate pets, let alone seven of them.
She was especially grateful that the Chan She Shu Yuen Clan Ancestral Hall not only welcomed all of her dogs but also allowed them into the solemnisation room during the ceremony.
"I was so happy and blessed that my seven babies could witness this too," she said.
