Penangites Are Registering For This Walk To Change The Country For The Better
It's happening on 25 March 2017!
Earth Hour is a global environmental movement with the mission to unite people around the world to protect the planet
In conjuction with Earth Hour 2017, WWF and the Penang State Government invites Malaysians for a 4.5km night walk to raise awareness on climate action
This will be the fourth time the Earth Hour Night Walk will take place in Penang. The 4.5km trail will start and end at Lebuh Lintang, next to 1st Avenue Mall on 25 March 2017, between 8.30pm to 9.30pm.
“Earth Hour is not just about going dark for a single hour every year. It calls us to review and change our overall lifestyle and reduce our carbon consumption throughout the year. Earth Hour reminds us to care for our environment and natural resources.”
Penang State Executive Councillor for Local Government, Traffic Management and Flood Mitigation, YB Tuan Chow Kon Yeow announced the pledges for Earth Hour 2017:
- All state government offices/agencies to be Penang Green Office certified with carbon reporting by 2020.
- To achieve 50% recycling rate for the state of Penang by 2020.
- To convert 20,000 unit street lightings to LED lightings by 2020.

6:00pm Pre-event activities and booths open for walk participants
8:30pm Earth Hour Night Walk Flag off / Earth Hour lights-off
9:30pm Earth Hour Night Walk ends and distribution of medals / Earth Hour lights-on
10:30pm Earth Hour activities ends

4.5 kilometres
Registration is RM65 per participant and all funds raised will be channelled to WWF-Malaysia’s conservation efforts :) Register to participate here!

As an Earth Hour 2017 Night Walk participant, you will receive a walk pack including a 100% organic cotton, eco-friendly Earth Hour 2017 T-Shirt and a medal.
The medals are made from recycled remnant wood and Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified wood veneers :O
