A Singaporean man recently confessed that he prefers women who are able to take care of themselves and doesn't want his partner to rely on him

In a confessions Facebook page called SGWhispers, the anonymous contributor labelled himself as feminist, believing that Singaporean women were more than capable of taking care of themselves and others.

"They're capable of carrying their own weight and even taking care of others, like men, in-laws, children, and so on," the Singaporean said.

The contributor also claimed that he was not like other men and was not ambitious or career-driven. He also did not want kids, as he preferred to spend money on himself.

"I am content to just make enough for myself. I am tired of this rat race and I want to focus on enjoying things I like in life," he revealed.

Unfortunately, being honest about his beliefs did not make the Singaporean successful in the dating world

He revealed that his avid search for an independent partner made many women assume that he was selfish and irresponsible.

Due to this, he has stopped being overly honest on dates and has kept his values under wraps, in case more women get turned off by them.

"Nowadays, instead of being overly honest, because women are so into romance and K-dramas, I promise [them the] world. My advice for men is to not be too honest," he said.

It seems like netizens weren't big fans of the confession as well, with many suggesting that the Singaporean should just stay single

Others said that there was nothing wrong with wanting an independent partner and being honest about it.

However, many said that the issue lies in his over-idealisation of the concept of an independent partner and that committed relationships thrive on supporting one another through thick and thin.

Some netizens also told him that capable women usually have higher standards, which the contributor earlier shared that he did not want to conform to.
