Scammers are becoming increasingly creative with their tactics, making it more challenging to detect scams these days

As online phishing techniques become more advanced and scammers get better at convincing phone impersonations, it's important to stay vigilant and well-informed about common scam tactics.

This way, you can protect yourself and have peace of mind when doing online banking or simply surfing the Internet, as well as guarding against various types of scams.

To equip Malaysians with anti-scam knowledge and help them stay up-to-date with the latest scams, banks in Malaysia have joined forces to relaunch the #JanganKenaScam campaign together with an on-ground event

An initiative by the banks, through The Association of Banks in Malaysia (ABM) & the Association of Islamic Banking and Financial Institutions Malaysia (AIBIM), the #JanganKenaScam campaign is aligned with the government and Bank Negara Malaysia's aim to educate the public on scam awareness and help foster education among Malaysians to combat scams.

The #JanganKenaScam Fest, the first-ever immersive scam education roadshow in Malaysia, will be held at the Oval Concourse in 1 Utama and will feature engaging experiential booths and informative exhibitions

#JanganKenaScam Fest
Date: 15 - 19 November
Venue: Lower Ground Oval Concourse (New Wing), 1 Utama Shopping Mall
Time: 10am - 10pm

This five-day event will allow Malaysians to explore different booths featuring interactive activities associated with a variety of scams, such as phone scams, malware scams, phishing scams, job scams, and more.

Upon registering at the event, you will be able to access your event digital passport, and as you participate and complete the activities at different booths, you'll accumulate e-stamps. Each e-stamp will allow you to exchange them for exclusive #JanganKenaScam goodies at the redemption counter, woah!

There will also be performances by your favourite personalities, fun quizzes, arcade games, a photo booth, as well as balloons, cotton candy, and popcorn carts.

In this booth, you'll be able to let loose and scream 'DEFEND!' whenever you see a scam phrase appear on the screen. The louder you scream, the brighter the Scam-o-meter icon will light up.

4. Discover tactics and suspicious job-related messages from scammers at the Phishing and Job Scam Booth

This booth will teach you how to identify scenarios and messages to stay away from when it comes to job scams. You'll have to tap on the 'Tak Nak' icon as fast as you can within 10 seconds.

5. Stay up-to-date with some of the most common scams at the Education Panel Booth

There will be experts at this booth, with whom you'll be able to enquire more about the various types of scams and scenarios. Once you've read all the information in this booth, you'll be able to collect your last e-stamp for your digital passport.

That's not all! Upon completing the activities, you'll have the chance to take home cute merchandise, including hoodies, t-shirts, stickers, and tote bags.

If you manage to collect one e-stamp from the booths, you will be able to redeem a car bumper sticker. With five e-stamps, you'll get to bring home an exclusive, limited edition Lawan Scammer Club Tote Bag.

You can also receive a free 'Cents of Security' coin box! All you have to do is upload your picture from the photo booth, share one lesson learned from this event, and use the hashtag #JanganKenaScam.

For those aiming to win the 'Lawan Scammer Club' t-shirt or hoodie, be sure to join the quiz session on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Each quiz participant will receive a t-shirt, while the winner will walk away with a hoodie.

You'll also get a chance to meet some of your favourite personalities like Arwind Kumar, Ceddy, Amelia Henderson, and more, who will pledge to fight against scams!

Local personalities like 988 FM Radio DJ Chan Fong, singers Ernie Zakri and Syamel, celebrity and ambassador Hairul Azreen, and more, will also be present to share their experiences with scams, host quizzes, perform, and entertain the crowd.

When it comes to scams, there are three important tips to keep in mind — never share your bank details with anyone, do not download suspicious .APK files, and beware of suspicious calls.
