When we think of unsung heroes, we immediately think of frontliners, volunteers, or delivery riders

While these people are undoubtedly our country's unsung heroes, there are many others in different fields, whom we may not realise are contributing to our nation by working hard and tirelessly behind the scenes.

As we go about our daily lives, from waking up in the morning to leaving for work, these workers have been up throughout the night, working hard to ensure that everything runs smoothly during the day. Those in the transportation industry, for example, begin work in the wee hours of the morning to make sure that all trains and buses are fit for operation.

This Hari Kebangsaan, the Ministry of Transport (MOT) wants to highlight these often unappreciated people, which is why they've featured three unsung heroes in the aviation, logistics, and transportation sectors in their Wira Yang Tidak Didendang video

Watch the full video below:

First up, Iman Najwa Hazimi works as a cargo operator in the logistics industry, making sure that all shipments are consigned safely and on time

Iman's day-to-day tasks include loading and offloading shipping containers, which requires immense concentration and caution, as these containers contain valuable cargo, and can cost up to thousands of ringgit.

"Any careless mistake can result in an accident, which may damage the client's property, and result in a loss. I use a rubber-tyred gantry (RTG) crane that is 21 metres tall, so our line of sight can sometimes get obstructed," shared Iman.

The biggest challenge Iman faces, however, is working in a male-dominated industry.

"Many of my male colleagues underestimate my abilities. But I've decided to look at this positively by challenging myself to prove to them that even women can work in this field," she said.

Meanwhile, air traffic controller Nurasyikin Mohd Nur plays a pivotal role in ensuring that all airplanes and passengers land and depart safely

Nurasyikin has been working at the control tower at KLIA Malaysia for over nine years.

"I am responsible for communicating with pilots to make sure that they can land safely," said Nurasyikin.

One of the biggest challenges she faces is when an airborne airplane develops a technical issue, which requires her to oversee the situation and make important decisions in a short period of time.

"I remember there was this one incident when a cargo plane alerted us that there was smoke in the cabin. My job as an air traffic controller at that time was to streamline all communications by alerting the frontliners, such as the firemen and ambulance, as well as stopping other airplanes from landing or departing until everything was under control," she said.

Last but not least, meet 35-year-old Saharudin Nur Zaharin, an ETS technician who has been with Malayan Railways Limited (KTMB) for 12 years

Based at ETS Depot Batu Gajah in Perak, Saharuddin maintains all ETS trains before they begin operations.

"Some of my tasks include inspecting the train, looking for damaged parts, and fixing any issues before the train's journey commences," said Saharuddin.

While Saharudin loves everything about his job, he shared that it can be risky at times, as he has to directly deal with the train's external power source, which consumes a high amount of electricity.

It is professionals like Saharudin who ensure that Malaysians are able to travel comfortably, safely, and conveniently for long distances via the ETS trains.

Saharudin, Iman, and Nurasyikin are perfect examples of unsung heroes who work tirelessly behind the scenes for a better Malaysia

Let's not forget to celebrate these Malaysians this Hari Kebangsaan and Malaysia Day. These people, regardless of their race, backgrounds, or roles, are all part of a collective effort to build a strong, resilient nation. Thank you, unsung heroes, for ensuring that our country's transport system operates smoothly and efficiently. <3

Minister of Transport Anthony Loke, said, "Their sacrifices often go unnoticed, but their impact reverberates throughout our society. They brave challenging weather conditions, endure long hours, and prioritise their responsibilities to ensure our citizens can move freely, connect with their loved ones, and contribute to our nation's progress."

The Ministry of Transport wishes all Malaysians a Selamat Hari Kebangsaan!
