Paramount Pictures has just signed an agreement to open the biggest theme park Southeast Asia has seen yet in Bali, Indonesia

According to a press release by Indonesia's People's Consultative Assembly, Indonesian developer PT Kios Ria Kreasi signed an agreement with the American film studio in Los Angeles last month to build a 57-hectare, movie-based theme park in Bali.

Assembly speaker Bambang Soesatyo said the project will strengthen Bali's position "as a recreational and entertainment hub for world citizens".

"It will also improve Bali's economy, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic," he said.

The theme park will be located in the southwest of Bali in Pekutatan, Jembrana, and is slated for a soft launch in 2025

As with other Paramount Pictures-based theme parks, visitors can expect themed rides, replicas, and exhibits from Paramount Pictures' library of more than 1,000 films, including Transformers, Mission: Impossible, Top Gun, and Star Trek.

Under the Paramount umbrella is also children's television network Nickelodeon, so attractions may draw from the brand's iconic characters such as SpongeBob SquarePants and Dora the Explorer.

According to License Global, an area of the park will also be dedicated to honouring some of Indonesia's culture, myths, and legends. Called the 'Land of Legends', it will feature the first Indonesian-inspired ride in an international theme park.

The park will also have two thematic hotels: the Paramount Grand Resort and the Nickelodeon Resort

The rooms will feature characters and themes from the Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon universe.

According to Bambang, the theme park is expected to attract as many as five million visitors annually.

The theme park is also set to measure 57 hectares big, easily being twice the size of local amusement parks such as LEGOLAND Malaysia (28 hectares) and Sunway Lagoon (36 hectares).

Paramount Pictures had also announced the opening of theme parks in Incheon, Korea, London, UK, and Kunming, China in the past decade. However, the development of the theme park in Incheon has been delayed beyond its initial target of 2025, while the deal in London has been postponed indefinitely.

Meanwhile, the first-of-its-kind Studio Ghibli theme park is anticipated to open in Japan in November this year:
