There is also a couple's swing and a stairway to heaven.
Many of us may have planned romantic trips around the world this year
Sadly, the pandemic dawned upon us and interfered with our plans.
Good news is that with interstate travel now allowed, we can finally consider a romantic trip within Malaysia!
There is a stunning location just a few minutes away from the heart of Penang and it is absolutely perfect for couples
Pulau Jerejak is a little island off the eastern coast of Penang and it is home to several lavish resorts.
According to Penang Kini, this beachside destination was recently reopened to the public after Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced the end of the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO).
Here, you can strike a pose at countless Insta-worthy locations
Previously, there was a military prison located on the island and according to Harian Metro, some locals even dubbed it as 'Malaysia's Alcatraz'.
However, the island underwent a full makeover and it is now a vibrant and lively tourist destination.
Some of the attractions include a colourful LED garden, a stairway to heaven, and even a few huge bird nests. Who needs Bali when you can just head to Pulau Jerejak? :P
Besides that, you can also opt for other fun activities such as jungle-trekking or sit back and enjoy a live show
Several different travel agents offer a guided tour package around the island and you'll be able to hike along forest trails while stopping by at historical sites such as an old war bunker and a Russian navy memorial.
There is a fire show held by the Jerejak Island Resort at night and it is open to the public. However, the resort is currently closed and will only resume operations in August.
The best part is that it costs less than RM20 for a two-way ferry ride to the island
Meanwhile, kids below the age of six get to ride the ferry for free.
You can get to the island by heading to the Pulau Jerejak Jetty in Bayan Lepas. It is just south of the Penang bridge and roughly 15 minutes away by foot from Queensbay Mall.
The first ferry to the island is scheduled to leave at 6.30am and the last boat headed back to Bayan Lepas leaves at 12.30am.
As you arrive at Pulau Jerejak, you'll be welcomed by a rainbow-coloured pier. You get a photo op the moment you step off the ferry!
