Single mother Siti Munira Mat Daud takes pride in her work as a security guard for a school, saying it allows her to raise her three children and be independent

Speaking to Harian Metro, the 34-year-old mother said after her husband died a year ago, she has been shouldering the responsibility of being the head of the family.

She has been working as a security guard at a primary school in Selayang, Selangor for seven years, after failing to meet the requirements to become a police officer.

Siti Munira shared that she chose this career path because of her keen interest in security.

"In the past, when I sent my children to school, I used to see the security guards on duty and it crossed my mind that perhaps I should apply to become a security guard.

"With my late husband's blessing (Sarizan Ahmad Kamel), I started working as a security guard.

"I wear my uniform with pride. Even though I never made the cut to become a policewoman, I am still able to carry out the duty of keeping the peace and making sure people are safe. The only difference is that my responsibility involves the children, teachers, and staff at the school," said the single mother.

Siti Munira urged young people not to be ashamed to work as a security guard, as some of her friends with high qualifications struggle to secure jobs in their respective fields

"Nowadays, many of the younger generation choose this line of work and become security guards because the job demands a high level of discipline and assertiveness. For me, the job satisfaction comes from ensuring all the students, teachers, staff, and parents have returned home safely," she said.

Commenting on her TikTok account with over 288,000 followers, Siti Munira said she never expected her videos to attract so much attention online.

She assured that that she never reveals details of her workplace despite receiving many inquires online. The single mother also shuts down any romantic advances, as she wants to remain single.

"When they find out that I am a single mother, some of them want to (pursue a serious relationship with me), but I politely decline because I am a mother and my focus is on my three children after my husband's death," she said, adding that her late husband died due to a heart ailment and high blood pressure complications.

She also brushed aside online negative remarks alleging that she is always 'playing' TikTok while on duty, affirming that she refrains from using her phone during work hours.
