Sick Of Dating Apps? This Fun, Real-Life Platform Will Change How You Meet People
The goal is to bring together like-minded individuals in fun, low-pressure settings.
Tired of endlessly swiping left and right, hoping for a spark?
Forget the virtual dating fatigue — there's a new way to meet people, and it's all about real-life connections, shared laughs, and actual fun.
Swipeless Malaysia is a fresh, swipe-free platform to meet people in real life through shared experiences.
Founder Shan Li Tay came up with the idea after getting tired of traditional dating apps.
"I found dating apps difficult to navigate and spent way too much time online instead of actually meeting people," she shared.
"I looked for singles events in KL but couldn't find much beyond speed dating or matchmaking, which didn't excite me. I wanted to learn fun things, like how to make cocktails, or do sports while meeting other singles."
Armed with a simple Google Form asking people if they'd join a singles platform with events like pizza-making and hiking, the concept took off.
"I got over 100 responses quickly, so I knew there was a need for this," she said.
Fast forward, and Swipeless now hosts a vibrant array of activities, from quiz nights to board game meetups, and they're constantly learning and evolving with each event.
So, what makes Swipeless so unique compared to traditional swipe-based apps?
Think of it as a real-life connector based on activities and interests.
"You can't connect with someone until you've actually met them at an event," the founder explained. "It's all about meeting face-to-face and forming genuine connections."
The platform uses both online and offline data to recommend events, ensuring you're likely to meet people you vibe with.
The goal is to bring together like-minded individuals in fun, low-pressure settings.
Unlike the anxiety of one-on-one dates, Swipeless events are relaxed and communal, with hosts ensuring everyone feels safe and comfortable.
Plus, event hosts benefit as well, as the platform allows them to organise events, set prices, and earn profits from a variety of activities
Challenges like balancing gender ratios does sometimes exist, but Shan is optimistic.
"Some activities naturally attract more women or men, but surprisingly, some events, like go-karting, have been quite balanced," she revealed.
Despite these hurdles, the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. Attendees have praised the platform for helping them break out of their social bubbles, make friends in a safe environment, and avoid the dreaded "interview-style" dating experience.
"It's so much better to do something fun and engaging instead of just sitting across from someone," said one happy participant.
"I always tell people to pick events they'd enjoy anyway, so there's nothing to lose and everything to gain," the founder said. "For instance, if you love pickleball, join our pickleball socials, play the sport you love, and maybe make some new friends — or more!" she added.
Plus, the platform embraces niche interests, like Dungeons & Dragons nights.
If dating apps aren't your thing or if Swipeless is your first foray into meeting singles, the founder's advice is simple:
Come with an open mind and choose activities you'd enjoy anyway. Worst case, you make new friends.
