Ever heard of the PROTÉGÉ-Ready to Work (RTW) programme by Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB)?

If you're an aspiring graduate or soon-to-be graduate who wants to make a mark in the energy industry, this programme may be just what you're looking for.

PROTÉGÉ-RTW has been used by TNB to drive talent development, preparing young professionals for meaningful and sustainable careers.

In fact, the programme has been instrumental in addressing graduate unemployment while cultivating a skilled workforce for Malaysia's growing energy sector. A total of 331 PROTÉGÉs have been absorbed as TNB employees over the years, a testament to its success in creating job-ready professionals.

Throughout the programme, participants are equipped with the skills needed to excel in roles ranging from engineering projects to IT solutions and management initiatives

PROTÉGÉ-RTW blends technical training with soft skills development to create well-rounded professionals. Participants benefit from the expertise of TNB Integrated Learning Solution Sdn Bhd (ILSAS), a subsidiary specialising in industry-specific training.

Beyond technical knowledge, the programme emphasises teamwork, communication, and problem-solving, ensuring graduates are versatile and adaptable. This dual focus on technical and soft skills prepares participants for success within TNB and across the broader energy sector.

Industry collaboration is central to the Protégé-RTW programme's success. During the programme, participants gain exposure through placements within TNB, its subsidiaries, and Malaysia's electricity supply sector. This collaborative approach extends beyond TNB, fostering a network of skilled professionals who contribute to the sector's growth.

TNB's PROTÉGÉ-RTW programme ensures each of its participants receive holistic support, including:

  • Skills training: Hybrid learning combining theoretical knowledge with practical application

  • Logistical support: Accommodation, classroom facilities, and meals during training in Bangi, Selangor

  • Financial support: Monthly allowances, social security, and insurance contributions

  • Health and safety: Medical coverage and personal protective equipment for technical roles

This support allows trainees to focus on their growth, ensuring they are ready for the challenges of the energy sector.

Furthermore, PROTÉGÉs undergo an employability assessment six months post-completion, allowing TNB to track their career progress and refine the programme based on industry demands. This continuous feedback loop ensures that each cohort is better prepared to meet the challenges of the dynamic electricity supply industry.

As Malaysia's energy landscape evolves, TNB remains committed to adapting the PROTÉGÉ-RTW programme

By expanding its scope, introducing new initiatives, and aligning with industry needs, the programme ensures graduates are equipped to excel in the dynamic and ever-changing electricity sector.

TNB's commitment to adaptability ensures the programme remains relevant, empowering each new cohort to contribute to Malaysia's sustainable energy goals.

Through Protégé-RTW, TNB is not only shaping careers but also powering the nation's progress, fostering innovation, and supporting economic growth. In building a skilled and forward-thinking workforce, TNB is lighting the way for a sustainable future for Malaysia.
