If you've been scrolling through Threads lately, chances are you've come across the TNG eWallet admin playfully roasting Malaysians over their spending habits

But beyond the jokes, TNG eWallet's roasts have also started a more relatable conversation: the everyday money habits we do not always like to admit.

From impulse buys to self rewarding, the replies were snarky for a reason.

Here are some of our favourites:

1. Stop giving into bad shopping habits

When a Threads user joked about heading to TRX because of the haze, TNG eWallet replied that the haze would be in their wallet after shopping, complete with a playful image of smoke coming out of a wallet.

While the reply was funny, the point here is that a little retail therapy is fine, but when every bad day becomes a reason to spend, your wallet might need a breather too.

2. Bad dating experience

This Threads user shared screenshots of a conversation with a guy who seemingly owed her money, allegedly for a previous date they had been on.

The brand's admin then took on the role of a relationship counsellor and suggested that their next date should be at a service centre, where the food is free.

Whether you're just getting to know someone or already in a relationship, money matters should be discussed openly.

And if you constantly have to chase someone for repayment, that could also be a red flag.

3. Think twice before spending

Influencer @ceddyornot also joined in the fun, sharing that he saved up enough money to buy the newly-launched iPhone Duo, along with a screenshot of his account balance showing just RM31.49.

The admin then replied to his post saying he's probably better off spending that money to buy treats for his cat, which spiralled into a short and humorous exchange between the two.

The message highlights how important it is to know where your money is going.

Sometimes, it's better to spend on something more important than to splurge on things that aren't necessary.

4. Going overboard with self-rewards

Another threads post saw a user asking whether he has time to save up for a Paddock Club ticket for the upcoming Formula 1 event while he's cutting sugar from his diet.

TNG eWallet then replied with a sarcastic comment that reminds us that a little treat is always fine. But when every minor inconvenience becomes an excuse to buy something, those purchases can quickly add up.

The takeaway here is not to stop enjoying yourself, but have a spending limit so you can still save for the things that matter.

5. Sometimes staying home is the financially responsible choice

In another post, the brand compared the air pollution index (API) to someone's account balance, suggesting they stay home when both are looking rather "unhealthy".

It serves as a reminder that not every outing needs to involve spending money. A night in, a homemade meal, or catching up with friends at home can be just as enjoyable as an expensive outing.

6. A quick reality check

When a Threads user claimed they could buy a Myvi in cash, TNG eWallet responded with a picture of diecast Myvis, after the user shared a screenshot of their balance with what seemed like RM230,652.82.

However, if you take a closer look, that amount is actually in Indonesian Rupiah, and when converted to Malaysian Ringgit, it's only estimated to be worth RM53.

The joke was a playful reality check that reminds us that big goals need real planning. And if you have a goal, that is when you need to start preparing and saving for it.

TNG eWallet's roasts were a fun way to start conversations about spending, saving, and financial responsibility

But if they got you thinking about your own money habits, maybe that's the point. Sometimes, the first step is not about making a huge financial move, it's just about starting somewhere.
