FamilyMart Japan Is Removing All Eat-In Spaces Nationwide

Few things compare to a good haul from FamilyMart in Japan, but now you may have to grab your favourite snacks and enjoy them somewhere else
On 2 October, FamilyMart announced plans to remove eat-in spaces from all its stores across Japan.
The decision is part of the company's efforts to "meet the diversifying needs of its customers."
Currently, around 7,000 FamilyMart branches in Japan have eat-in areas. However, these spaces will soon be converted to accommodate more products.
The company shared, "We aim to make our stores more useful for everyday shopping by expanding our product lineup. This includes convenience wear, which is growing in demand, as well as daily necessities like toilet paper and detergent."
Since the COVID-19 pandemic, FamilyMart has observed changes in customer behaviour when it comes to eating at their stores
To better utilise space and improve convenience, the company is shifting its focus towards offering a wider range of products.
While some outlets may retain their seating areas for now, the push to phase them out will be a priority, depending on the conditions.
According to Yahoo! Japan, at least 2,000 stores will have removed their eat-in spaces by the end of the year.
