Police in Terengganu have detained a 15-year-old girl, an alleged rape victim, after her newborn baby boy was found dead with stab wounds

Kemaman police chief Supt Hanyan Ramlan said the girl's family members were not at home during the incident and an initial investigation revealed that the baby was allegedly stabbed by the 15-year-old mother.

"The baby was delivered by a 15-year-old girl at her house, assisted by a friend. The latter then rushed to inform a nearby clinic about the delivery while the teen mother and her baby stayed at home," he said.

According to Hanyan, clinic personnel found the baby bleeding when they arrived at the scene. The baby was confirmed dead despite being rushed to the clinic and given emergency aid.

A police report was lodged yesterday morning, 8 February.

Police found several sharp objects with traces of blood in the house

Hanyan added that the remains of the baby were taken to the Forensic Unit of the Kemaman Hospital for post-mortem and that the teenage mother also received treatment at the hospital.

According to him, since only the teenager was in the house with the baby during the incident, the police have detained her to assist in the investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

It was reported that the girl dropped out of school three years ago

She has been staying with her mother, who works in Cukai.

Meanwhile, the man, who allegedly raped the victim, has been identified

The man is being investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape.

It was not reported if police have managed to detain the suspect.
