Drivers should think twice about cruising along the emergency lane on the North-South Expressway (NSE) this Hari Raya festive season

Knowing this is a common occurrence during bumper-to-bumper crawl on the major highway, the Transport Ministry has implemented stricter monitoring, including the use of closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras, to identify errant motorists, especially those using the emergency lane

150 CCTVs had been installed by PLUS Malaysia Berhad (PLUS) along the NSE for this purpose

"PLUS will monitor all the CCTVs through its control centre and they will zoom in on motorists abusing the emergency lane to get information on the vehicles and then report the matter to the Road Transport Department which will issue the summons," Transport Minister Anthony Loke was quoted as saying by Bernama

Loke also called on the public with information or evidence of errant drivers, like photos or video recordings of them committing the offence, to lodge a report with the Road Transport Department (JPJ)

"Photos and evidence sent in by the public will also be taken into account. So, send in the details of such incidents to [email protected]," he said in a report by The Star Online.

Heavy traffic is expected along many major highways as people are travelling back to their respective hometown during the balik kampung exodus

The public can obtain the latest traffic information by calling PLUSLine at 1800-88-0000 or through its Twitter account.

Drive safe, everyone!

Meanwhile, Melaka has declared free parking on weekends and public holidays from 15 June onwards:
