Two boys ran to their neighbour for help after a man stabbed their mother to death in Ipoh, Perak last night, 15 April

According to The Star, the 42-year-old neighbour — known only as Laishmi — was the person attending to the children's cry for help in Taman Perpaduan, Tambun.

"They came to my house and told me that 'uncle' is stabbing their mother. I told my father to bring them into the house before running over to their place," Laishmi related.

When she was at the victim's house, she saw a woman lying still on the floor with a man nearby.

"I asked him to stop, but instead he shut the door and locked it," she said.

The victim — who has been identified as 31-year-old K Krishna — was declared dead at the scene, while the 23-year-old assailant suffered severe stab wounds

New Straits Times reported that the boys — aged six and eight — were unharmed.

Speaking to reporters, Perak Criminal Investigations Department chief ACP Anuar Othman said the victim was stabbed in the chest several times with a knife.

The police learnt about the incident after receiving a distress call from the neighbour at 8.45pm.

"When a team of policemen arrived at her home, they found both laying next to each other in a pool of blood. There were several stab wounds on the woman's body as well as the man's," revealed Anuar.

He said it is unsure whether the assailant's injuries were inflicted by himself as a means to kill himself or were inflicted by the woman.

"We will investigate and record statements from the witnesses including the woman's children who saw the incident," Anuar added.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that the victim had in the past lodged a police report against the assailant for breaking into her home and bothering her

The 23-year-old — who is unemployed — was arrested on 15 March and later charged in court, reported Bernama.

Currently, the assailant is receiving treatment at Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital, while the victim's body was sent to the same hospital for post-mortem.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 for murder, which carries the mandatory death penalty upon conviction.
