A 24-year-old woman has been detained after fabricating a story about being kidnapped by an unknown person in Johor last week

The woman, a shop assistant in Mersing, was found safe with two males in Rompin, Pahang.

Mersing district police chief Supt Abdul Razak Abdullah Sani said his team had received a police report on Thursday, 22 August, and the case was investigated under Section 365 of the Penal Code for kidnapping.

However, during the investigation, the police discovered that the woman had made up the kidnapping story to her family because she wanted to spend the night with her friends, Abdul Razak added.

The woman, along with the two males, aged 16 and 24, have been remanded for three days starting from 25 August

A preliminary urine test on the woman showed that she tested positive for methamphetamine.

"The case is being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1953," Abdul Razak said while advising the public against providing false information to authorities.
