A 4-year-old boy has been on a respirator for over 120 days after nearly drowning in a swimming pool at a homestay resort in Kedah

Speaking to Harian Metro, Nurul Izzati Barni, 30, said the incident occurred during a holiday when her son, Umar, accidentally fell into the pool at the resort near Alor Setar.

The mother jumped into the pool to save Umar and performed CPR.

According to her, doctors said Umar's pulse had stopped for four minutes, but miraculously, he started breathing again before being admitted to the paediatric intensive care unit (PICU) at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital.

He spent 19 days at the PICU before being transferred to a different ward.

For the past four months, Nurul Izzati has been visiting Umar daily to accompany and care for him

She said that although Umar's condition has stabilised, she continues to pray and whisper in his ear, urging him to wake up.

"After Umar was transferred from PICU to the semi-critical ward, I noticed some changes.

"When I spoke in his ear, I saw tears welling up in his eyes, and his hand tightly gripped mine as if he did not want to let go," said the mother, who has two other children, aged 11 and 10.

Her husband, who works as a police officer, is currently performing umrah to pray for their son's recovery.

Videos of Umar on a respirator have gone viral on TikTok, garnering millions of views

Tears can be seen on Umar's face in some videos, while other videos show him being fed milk through a tube.

Nurul Izzati said she shared the videos to ask for prayers from the public as well as some financial support.

Anyone wishing to help Umar can donate to Nurul Izzati Barni's Maybank account at 152095967027.
