A 60-year-old man from Kuching, Sarawak was recently apprehended by the police for illegal possession of air rifles
Harian Metro reported that on Tuesday, 6 August, police had raided the man's shophouse on Jalan Mendu, Kuching.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Awang Din Awang Gani confirmed the arrest with the local news outlet.
The suspect is a general worker who lives alone in his shophouse, investigators found.
Police believe the senior citizen had followed tutorials he found on Google to make his own air rifles
The man claimed that the air rifles were intended to be used for self-defence.
A total of three air rifles were found in his possession and the police believe that he used marbles as ammunition.
The suspect will be investigated under Section 8(A) of the Arms Act 1960
The Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) told Harian Metro, "The items have been seized and brought to the police station for further investigation."
"A background check also revealed that the suspect has criminal history," he added.
