Police on Wednesday night arrested a 42-year-old man from Kuala Berang, Hulu Terengganu, who is suspected of running away with a 14-year-old girl whose father had lodged a missing person's report
According to a report in NST Online, the suspect was believed to have taken off with the underage girl after her family wouldn't allow her to be in "relationship" with him.
The underage girl's father feared that his daughter had run away with the man.
He is also suspected of raping the underage girl
The 42-year-old's week-long remand order was approved by Kuala Terengganu Sessions/Magistrate Court Senior Assistant Registrar Noradila Ab Latiff on 25 October.
The case is being investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code for underage rape.
NST Online quoted a source saying that the suspect, whose identity is being withheld to protect the victim, committed an offence as he ran away with an underaged girl.
"The victim's father was worried for the safety of his child, so he lodged a report. The victim's father suspected that she was taken by the man, who also raped her," he said
