In a press release to SAYS, the company said the benefit is the "latest enhancement" to its A-Plus Health medical plan.

A-Plus Health, launched in 2018, is a medical rider that can be attached to AIA's regular premium-linked plans, A-LifeLink 2 and A-Life Joy 2.

The benefit is also applicable for AIA's shariah-compliant version of the medical rider, A-Plus Health-i.

The insurance benefit covers six mental health conditions and can be claimed from the 'Health Wallet' of up to RM1,500

The six conditions include:

- Major depressive disorders,
- Post-partum depression,
- Schizophrenia,
- Bipolar disorder,
- Obsessive-compulsive disorder, and
- Tourette Syndrome.

iMoney explained that AIA's Health Wallet "allows an amount of funds to be credited into the wallet for each year that no claim is made from the A-Plus Health".

The benefit applies to all existing and new customers of A-Plus Health

AIA, in the press release, also explained that Health Wallet covers preventive care services and other additional medical expenses which are typically not covered in insurance plans, such as:

- Health screenings and vaccinations,
- Artificial limb and hearing aid expenses,
- Coverage for congenital conditions, and
- Recovery care for cancer, stroke, and heart attacks.

"Mental health continues to remain a challenge for both the public and health industry due to the lack of data and understanding," said AIA Berhad chief marketing officer Heng Zee Wang.

"With this new feature, AIA hopes to enable more Malaysians to take that first step to seek professional help."
