JB Residents Left Worried After Car Falls Into Massive Sinkhole Caused By Broken Pipes

It is said that thousands of people use the road daily to go to work.

A car in Johor Bahru recently fell into a sinkhole at Jalan Lampam, Tanjung Puteri Resort

According to Harian Metro, the incident caused local residents to fear for their safety.

A road user, Ahmad Radzi Ibrahim, told the Malay daily that the Proton Wira fell into the big hole earlier today, 16 June.

He said that thousands of people use the road daily to go to work.

"The location where it happened is the main road from Pelabuhan Tanjung Langsat headed to Johor Port, as well as villages in Pasir Putih," he added.

It is believed that the sinkhole was caused by broken pipes

"If the same incident had happened to a motorcycle rider, the impact would be worse and could have taken away a life," Ahmad Radzi said.

"The local authorities and the Public Works Department (JKR) must monitor the safety of this main road that is also used by hundreds of heavy vehicles each day," he added.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson from the Pasir Gudang City Council (MPBG) said that Ranhill SAJ, the water utility company which is responsible for water supply services in Johor, has been informed of the incident

They told Harian Metro that the incident involves a Ranhill SAJ pipe and MPBG has requested them to fix the road.

The spokesperson said, "The road is one of the main roads in Pasir Gudang and we hope that repair works will be carried out today."

"MBPG would also like to ask for concession groups to be prepared if there is a need to assist with the repair works," they added.
