CCTV Footage Shows How Easy It Is For Thieves To Steal Your Bag In A Restaurant
The theft is reported to have occurred in a popular mall in PJ earlier this week.
A split second of inattention could be the perfect moment for petty criminals to strike.
On Monday, 12 December, a patron of a shopping mall in PJ learnt that the hard way when his bag was stolen while he was having lunch with his family.
The family of four was sitting in direct view of the CCTV, which captured a man in a white T-shirt loitering around them before smoothly swiping the bag from the victim's seat and walking away
Unfortunately, the victim only realised that the bag - which contained cash, ATM cards as well as his identity card and driving licence - had been stolen when they wanted to settle the bill.
"From the video captured by the CCTV in the restaurant, we saw a guy pretending to look for a seat in the restaurant and stole my bag on the way out," he wrote.
"The whole process took less than a minute and it happened when we were still trying to figure out what food to order."
The victim further elaborated that he frequently travels for business and made it a rule to never take off his bag in public, as he is always wary about losing his personal belongings
"But on 12 December 2016, I forgo this rule of mine, removing my sling bag containing my wallet with cash, identity card, driving licence and ATM cards and placed it at the back of my seat," he wrote.
"I did that mainly because the high chair in the restaurant was too close to each other and my son was uncomfortable with me carrying the sling bag, sitting beside him."
However, he is grateful that the thief only targeted his bag and not his children, one of whom was terrified when the parents filled him in on what had happened
"My 3-year-old son was terrified when we told him what happened and showed him the video. We feel sorry for him that he has to be exposed to the cruelness of real life at such an early age," he wrote.
"It is high time that all of us take this escalation in crime rate seriously and do something about it proactively."
