A Chinese influencer has gone viral for pointing out that Malaysians are easy to get along with and say 'thank you' too often
In a Xiaohongshu post last week, Zhi Zhi said that Malaysians seem especially fond of keeping the words 'thank you' on their lips.
She shared that in daily interactions, many sentences seem to include 'thank you'.
"What puzzles me the most is that when I thank them, besides saying 'you're welcome', they will actually turn around and say "thank you' back to me," she said.
Zhi Zhi also shared a humorous anecdote about how these polite exchanges often play out with her neighbours.
"For instance, whenever a neighbour gives me something, I quickly say 'thank you' to them, and as a result, they reply with a 'thank you' as well.
"The two of us just go back and forth like that for several rounds," she recounted.

Zhi Zhi said she initially did not know how to react in such situations, but over time, she came to understand that the politeness stemmed from genuine gratitude, reflecting Malaysia's easygoing and friendly culture
"This back and forth is too adorable.
"The locals here, whether they are Malays, Indians, or local Chinese, treat people with great courtesy, and are gentle and polite.
"They don't use their status as locals, or use identity or wealth to divide people into different social classes," she shared, adding that she has not experienced discrimination while living in the country.
Ultimately, the influencer concluded that Malaysian culture is rooted in sincere, down-to-earth kindness that leaves a lasting impression on travellers and newcomers alike.
One of the top comments on the post said Malaysians feel the need to say 'thank you' regardless of whether they are serving or being served, as both parties deserve gratitude.
