A 25-year-old Chinese tourist has revealed that she was nearly sexually assaulted while travelling in Sabah last month, forcing her to hide in the bushes from the early hours of the morning until dawn

According to HK01, the victim, surnamed Huang (transliteration), was staying at a resort in Semporna on 19 September when a man broke into her room late at night while she was asleep.

The suspect, later reportedly identified as an 18-year-old security guard at the resort, allegedly forced Huang out of her clothes and attempted to sexually assault her.

Huang woke up to find herself pinned down by the suspect and immediately fought back, triggering a physical struggle between them.

She eventually managed to trick him into taking a shower, giving her an opportunity to flee the room. However, the suspect reportedly grabbed her by the hair and dragged her to the ground as she tried to escape.

Huang managed to get away and hid in bushes halfway up a nearby mountain. While hiding, she endured repeated bites from ants and mosquitoes, which also bit her wounds from the struggle.

The suspect reportedly did not pursue her because feared of being caught on the resort's CCTV cameras. Huang remained hidden until around 8am, when resort staff eventually found her.

In a post on Douyin, Huang recounted that she hid in the bush from 3.30am to 8am, constantly praying and fearing for her life.

Although the incident is over, she said she is still afraid to close her eyes, fearing that something bad might happen to her.

Huang said the suspect has been sentenced to two years in prison for trespassing

She was informed that the suspect was a foreign national suspected of entering or remaining in Malaysia illegally without valid documents.

Police reportedly said they would take legal action against employers who hire undocumented immigrants or workers without valid work permits.

Huang also revealed that she had paid "over a thousand yuan" (over RM600) to stay at the resort, which is located on a mountain surrounded by an oil palm plantation.

In her Douyin post, she stressed that staying at an expensive hotel does not guarantee one's safety.

Following the Chinese Embassy's intervention, the Sabah Tourism Board reportedly visited Huang to check on her wellbeing. She also said the Sabah government was closely monitoring the case.

Huang added that the resort had contacted her after the incident but did not offer any compensation. She has since handed the matter over to her lawyer.
