A Malaysian woman took to social media to warn others after she and her boyfriend caught a pervert taking upskirt videos of women shoppers with a camera hidden inside a paper bag

The woman said the incident occurred last Wednesday, 30 December, while she was shopping with her boyfriend in a mall in Klang Valley.

"It all began with the pervert acting suspiciously around me while I was browsing through the shop," she wrote in a Facebook post.

Her boyfriend was the first to notice the man standing too close to her and saw the man carefully position his shopping bag under her skirt. He then continued to watch as the suspicious man did the same thing near other women in skirts and dresses around the store.

When the boyfriend finally saw the telltale hole at the side of the paper bag, he decided to confront the man about it

"My boyfriend requested to inspect his paper bag, however the pervert refused and decided to apologise instead," the woman said.

After the couple asked him a few more times, the suspect tried to make an escape.

"The pervert then removed his mobile phone from the paper bag, threw the paper bag into the dustbin, and attempted to delete the videos while running away."

Fortunately, she said two other shoppers came to their help and her boyfriend managed to hold the suspect down while they called for the mall's auxiliary police.

With the help of the cops, they went through the suspect's phone and found that he did take upskirt videos and pictures of her while she was busy shopping

They also found eight other similar videos of other women that were taken the day before in the phone's image gallery.

During the investigation, she wrote that the suspect admitted to the crime and said he has enjoyed doing it since he was young.

The man also claimed he was insane and used it as an excuse for his misconduct.

However, the couple was unimpressed.

"Crazy is not a reason for such a sickening act. You are a pervert who owns an extra phone, puts duct tape on the lenses, cut out some holes for the camera, sticks your phone in a normal paper bag, and walks around flipping the paper bag to take pictures of women's private parts and videotape their underwear. That's sick," she wrote.

The woman told SAYS that they will be pursuing legal action against the perpetrator and that the police are still in the midst of investigating the case

"After knowing what he has done, I knew that we needed to press charges. This is not only for me but it's also for all the girls out there," she explained in her post.

She wrote to also advise people, especially women, to be more aware of offences like these because there could easily be more similar culprits who have not been caught.

"The victim can be you, or even a young kid, and you'll never know," she said.

She also lastly credited her boyfriend for insisting on confronting the suspicious man instead of letting him go just like she normally would. She called for more women to stand up and speak out against acts of sexual harassment and to not let offenders just slip by.

In November, a woman gathered up the courage to share her experience with sexual harassment when she took a Grab ride alone:

Meanwhile, many Malaysians have experienced stalking and its negative effects but the offence is not criminalised in the country:
