Police officers in Melaka recently arrested two suspects believed to be involved in a baby dumping case

According to Harian Metro, the suspects, a 23-year-old woman and her 25-year-old boyfriend, are also accused of concealing birth.

A security guard at one of the suspects' workplace filed a police report on Tuesday, 23 June, which led to the couple's arrest.

The report claimed that the woman had been absent from work many times this month due to sick leave and that she had delivered a baby.

Authorities then found the body of a five to seven-month-old fetus in the septic tank near a rental home in Kampung Kandang.

Investigations also revealed that the woman had consumed abortion-inducing medication she purchased on Facebook

Melaka Criminal Investigation Department chief ACP Mohd Nor Yhazid Idris told Bernama, "She had taken a type of medication to induce abortion which she had purchased on Facebook and had been dealing (with the seller) through WhatsApp, and police had seized her cellphone for further investigation."

Meanwhile, he explained that the male suspect confessed to receiving the remains of the baby wrapped in plastic from his girlfriend and dumping the body in the septic tank of his house.

"Investigations also found that the baby was born in a toilet in the house while the second crime scene is the suspect's bedroom. We discovered the location of the baby's body after questioning both of the suspects," he added.

The case has been classified under Section 318 of the Penal code for the concealment of birth by secret disposal of a dead body

If found guilty, the couple could be charged with a fine or imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years or both.

Harian Metro also reported that the police will remand the male suspect starting today while the woman will be remanded after undergoing a health check at Melaka General Hospital.
